Not all Christmas movies are good

December 20th, 2011

Besides the big feasts that families know and love, a favorite pastime of many around the holidays is to watch Christmas movies.  There are the older, classic films like “Miracle on 34th Street” and “A Christmas Tale” to newer instant favorites like “Elf”.  Either way, there are plenty of motions pictures to choose from.  However, some Christmas movies are far better than others. Well, with Christmas being less than a week away, Fandango has composed a list of the top ten worse Christmas movies of all time.

Topping the list was “Santa Claus Conquers the Martians”.  Many have likely never heard of this film before and with good reason.  The film, first released in 1964, had a budget of $20,000 and featured sets made out of cardboard.  The eerie storyline is about children in a Martian settlement spending too much time watching “earth” television programs about Santa Claus.  This causes great concern and the only solution is to obviously capture Santa, bring him to Mars and spread the Christmas spirit.

The film somehow became a cult classic and during the holidays you may even be able to catch a life reenactment of the film.   If you want to check it out for yourself, its showing in New York and Los Angeles this weekend.

Also on the list was “Silent Night, Deadly Night” as the second worse film.  The next movies listed featured some usually successful Hollywood actors with “Jingle All The Way” starring Arnold Schwarzenegger coming in third and “Jack Frost” featuring Michael Keaton, fourth.  Rounding out the top five was “Santa With Muscles” staring Hulk Hogan.
